After much research, I finally decided on what to wrap my ice axe with to prevent cold transfer to my hands. A thin cork barrier topped with a self fusing silicone tape called Rescue Tape. I don't know what took me so long, my I think I was afraid of making a mess of my ice axe. Turned out decent.
